Yr 11 Glyndebourne Opera Trip

Recently I had the opportunity to be a part of the Glyndebourne community opera, Uprising. I am part of the youth chorus, and in the opera, we play schoolchildren who join the protagonist, Lola Green, in her quest against climate change.

My favourite thing about this opera is that it is so relevant to today’s political landscape, as climate change is such an issue at the moment. Uprising showcases the power that young people have in standing up for what they believe, and protecting the climate.

I also play one of the ten teenage activists, who are based on real people who are working globally to save the climate. I was honoured to be chosen as one of these soloists, and performing a solo on the Glyndebourne stage has really been a dream come true. It was a great experience, and I had the privilege of working with some incredible professional musicians.

This opera is a reminder of the atrocities that humanity has wreaked on the climate, and through one girl’s brave protest, we see that the Earth really is worth protecting.

To end with a quote from Uprising: ‘This is our time. This is happening now. It’s just us- we must answer. No-one is coming to save us but us.’
