Admissions FAQs

Yr 7 admissions

How many Year 7 places do you have? Our published admission number (PAN) is 174

What Kent Test (11+) score does my daughter need for a place at TWGGS? We do not have cut off grades.  We accept applications from any student who is ‘grammar-assessed’ by KCC, i.e. who has passed the test with the required scores in each paper and met the aggregate score. The score threshold changes each year.

Do you take applications from outside Kent? Yes, but they might not be allocated a placeduring the first round of offers. We strongly urge those who live outside Kent to consider the nature of their child’s journey to school before naming us on their application form or applying to us as an In-Year Admission.

Do I need to complete a SIF? The supplementary information form (SIF) is required only if your daughter is eligible for Pupil Premium. Please ensure the form and evidence (a letter from her current school/council or confirmation of being in receipt of free school meals) is sent directly to TWGGS by 31st October.

We have just moved to Kent and missed the testing and application process. What can I do? Please contact KCC who will advise you. Telephone 03000 412121, or email kentonlineadmissions@kent.gov.uk

We missed your open events, can we have a private tour? Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate any tours of the school outside our published open events, details of which can be found on our website.

When do I need to move house in order to be considered in the first round of allocations? You need to have informed KCC of your new address by 12th December 2024.

How are school places allocated for year 7 entry? To be eligible for this particular school, pupils need to pass the 11+ test, there is no high score requirement to be eligible. Once passed, the places are then allocated in accordance with our oversubscription criteria. We have 174 places, 157 of them are allocated using criteria 1-6 with the main criteria being the distance you live from the school. The distance we can allocate to changes every year, if you imagine a pebble being dropped where TWGGS is located and a ripple effect moving out, once the 157 places have been filled that is the distance that we have been able to offer to on that particular year. Once the 157 places have been filled, a line is drawn and all the remaining children on the list, living in the area we give priority to (outlined in criteria 5), are then re-ranked by score, the 17 highest scoring children are then allocated these places under criteria 7, Governor's places.

My daughter has an EHCP, what do I do? The SENCO at your child’s primary school should be able to advise you of the process as this is not dealt with in the usual application window. Speak to Kent Admissions if you are unsure.  Your child will need to sit the 11+ PESE Kent Test.  If successful, you will be able to name TWGGS on your EHCP.  KCC will then consult to see if the school can meet the needs stated within the EHCP.

What is the distance you have gone out to in previous years?

Appeals and Reallocations

My daughter has not been offered a place at TWGGS, but we still wish to be considered. What do we do? Providing you have named us on your SCAF by 31 October, then you can appeal for a school place with us following National Offer Day.

What if my daughter doesn’t pass the Kent Test? There is no right of appeal against the assessment decision. However, as above, providing you have named us on your SCAF, then you can appeal for a school place with us following National Offer Day.

What happens if my appeal is unsuccessful? If your appeal is unsuccessful then we cannot offer your daughter a place at TWGGS during Year 7. If you still wish to seek admission to TWGGS, you can submit an in year admission form to the school in time for the in year testing in the summer term of year 7 for proposed entry at the start of Year 8 if they are successful. Should we not have space in the year group, your daughter would be added to the waiting list which is ranked according to our oversubscription criteria.

How do I contact the Kent County Council Admissions team? Email the admissions team at kentonlineadmissions@kent.gov.uk  or call 03000 412121.

What is the Reallocation process? Following any declines from the first round offers (i.e. the initial 174 students offered a place at TWGGS), KCC will offer further places at TWGGS from their waiting list. The Reallocation takes place on 24 April and is subject to our oversubscription criteria and PAN. Applicants successful in the Reallocation process are notified by email from KCC.
