U15/16 Hockey Team through to Regional Finals

U15/16 Hockey Team through to Regional Finals

26th Sep 2024

Congratulations to our Under 16 Hockey team, who are through to Regional finals following their performance at yesterday's county tournament. Here, Year 10 Daisy tells us about the day.

'The first match began at 10am after a good warm up, and despite being the team on top for the duration of the match, we came out with a draw. However, the next two matches we proceeded to win, without conceding another goal. This was the first time the U16s (a collaboration of Year 10s and 11s) had played together, so it was brilliant that we were able to quickly work together to win. The final match of group stages was against Cranbrook School and, if we won, we would be through to the semi-finals; however, if we lost, we would have to go home and the journey would end. We were delighted that we managed to score a goal in the last few minutes of the match, to secure the top spot in the group.

'For the semi-finals, we played Radnor House School, winning 1-0, which put us through to the finals and guaranteed us a place at the next round - Regionals. Despite this guarantee, we still wanted to come out on top of the tournament. Even though we were determined to win the final against local rivals Tonbridge Grammar School, neither side could score a goal in the match. This led to shuffles, where five players are nominated to have eight seconds to score a goal against the opposition's goal keeper. After four shuffles from either team, the goals were tied at 2 all, however in the last round our goalie, Lizzie, managed to pull off a great save and Eva scored the winning goal!

'Well played to all U16s and a great effort from all over the pitch. Thank you to Miss Withers and Mrs Scovell for umpiring, driving the mini bus, coaching and supporting the team. Next stop, Regionals!
