Year 10 Pupil on Himalayan Trek

6th May 2024
During the Easter holidays, Year 10 pupil Nidhi was lucky to be able to join a trekking group in India and went on a 10 day trek in the Himalayas, to Chandrakhani Pass in the Manali Region. Here, she tells us all about it:

"In the Easter holidays, I went on a 10 day trek in the Himalayas. The trek was called Chandrakhani Pass and it is the third toughest pass in the Himalayas. My group arrived at our first base camp in the Kullu Valley, in Himachal Pradesh, India, very early in the morning and got assigned tents and took the rest of the day to acclimatise.

The next day we left for our main trek, up the mountain. We walked through so many local villages as we went up and the views from anywhere up the mountain were amazing. It took us the whole day to get to our second base camp and the terrain wasn’t easy to climb on either. We stayed at the second base camp overnight and spent the next couple days doing activities up there. We eventually left to go to the peak. As we went higher the snow increased and, because it wasn’t fresh on the slope, it was very slippery. We had to walk up an 85° which was very hard, but when we got to the top it was definitely worth it. The views were literally breathtaking and we had so much fun snowboarding and playing in the snow. After a few more days we went back to the first base camp and ended the trip by rafting and going shopping in a place called Mall Road, which was really fun.

This was a great experience and I am really grateful to have had the opportunity to be able to go on it and also for being able to talk about it here. Thank you!"
