We are delighted to announce that the first phase of our conversion of the old gym is almost complete, with the addition of a large, airy, new staff room to our facilities. Work has been going on behind boarded up doorways to split the double height gym into two floors, with the upper floor becoming a bright, spacious work and social space for staff.
The original round window, covered for years by a false ceiling, has been revealed and renovated, and is now complemented by new roof windows to let light flood into the room. Meanwhile, on the ground floor, the new Chemistry labs, prep rooms and offices are very near completion, with new equipment for lessons arriving this week. We can't wait for pupils to start using them and we're looking forward to sharing more pictures of them with you soon.
In a separate project, we are very pleased that work on the heating system in the main school building, carried out after hours over the last few months, is very near completion. We are grateful to Kent County Council for funding this enormous project, which involved the installation of over 120 radiators and approximately 1.5 Km of copper piping, and for the patience of staff and pupils while this work was continuing. We hope this means that frequent spells of no heating during winter will be a thing of the past at TWGGS!
