Computing Department News: CyberFirst Girls' Competition Finalists

10th Jan 2023

Before Christmas, TWGGS entered 10 teams of Year 8 students into the CyberFirst Girls Competition run by the National Cyber Security Centre, which aims to support girls interested in a career in cyber security. Each team of four competed in an online qualifying round solving a number of challenging cyber security based tasks. Each team worked really well across the ten day period of the online round. Well done to all those who took part, who each received a certificate of participation.

  • Amelia 8T - "I loved the competition and it really stretched my ability to crack puzzles. I had lots of fun solving puzzles - I got blocked on for hacking!"
  • Imogen 8T - "I really enjoyed the CyberFirstGirls competition as it really made our brains work. We had to solve many tricky challenges in the ten days we were given."
  • Megan 8W - "I really enjoyed the cyberfirst girls competition, it was really fun!!"
  • Samantha 8T - "It made us stretch ourselves. We learned so much during the10 days and are so glad we entered even though we didn't win. We had such fun doing this and will be willing to do something like this again."
A special congratulations goes to Ellen, Aditi, Sriprutha and Georgia who have qualified for the final of this year's competition. Over 100 schools will compete in the final simultaneously from all over the UK on Saturday 4th February. Ellen, Aditi, Sriprutha and Georgia will represent TWGGS as one of 12 schools from the South East region. The very best of luck to them!
