"...an insightful and original analysis, composed with an overall masterful command of the sources used."
We are delighted to announce that Caitlin Taylor, one of our Sixth Form pupils, has been awarded the prestigious Award for Best Essay in the junior category of the Cambridge Language Collective Schools' Essay Competition 2022.
Caitlin was selected for both the longlist and the shortlist by the CLC judging panel, who deemed it an 'incredibly difficult task' to select the winner, due to the high quality of this year's entries.
Dr Hugo Azérad of the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics at the University of Cambridge was on the panel to judge the shortlisted entries. He commented that Caitlin's essay offered a brilliant analysis of the film, that would even compare well with a piece of work produced at university. He called it "subtle, original and incisive", and commended the brilliant attention to film techniques, aesthetics and politics, going to the core of what is at stake when "subalterns" (following Spivak) cannot speak or film back.
