U16 Hockey Team Win at Regionals

17th Dec 2024

We are delighted to share that our U16 hockey team recently won their regional tournament. Here, one of the team reports on the day:

"The day started off cold and, shortly after our arrival, instead of being able to warm up, we had to defrost the icy TGS hockey astro! After an hour of work getting rid of the ice alongside our competition, the Astro was finally ready and safe for us to play.

"Following a short amount of time left to warm up, we found ourselves having to play our biggest threat at the competition, the home team, TGS. Our aim was to get off to a strong start straight away, allowing the TGS side no time to get comfortable - and we did just that. In the first half, we had scored three goals which came from a collaboration of efforts in the D. Then, in the second half, we aimed to keep the lead, which we achieved, including defending 4 short corners in a row, but conceding no goals.

"We then proceeded to play Hurst, and in this match we achieved another convincing win of 2-0. Our next match was straight after, so we had no time to regroup and reset. But, thanks to all the pre regionals training, the team was fit enough and we manage to end with a 0-0 draw. Due to these results, we won the tournament, conceding zero goals!

"Now that we have won counties and regionals, our next step is nationals. We are fortunate enough to be able  to train twice a week now at school together until the tournament,  and then we will bring home the national title for the second time!

"Thank you to Miss Withers for driving and coaching us, as well as organising and running all of the extra training sessions so that we will be in the best form for nationals."
