Over the February half term break, Sixth Form Spanish pupils visited Andalucia, to immerse themselves in Spanish culture, as well as to practise their language skills.
During their first two days in Seville, pupils and staff visited Plaza de España, Seville cathedral and climbed up La Giralda (the famous tower in Seville). They also enjoyed a walk by the River Guadalquivir in beautifully warm spring sunshine.
On Day 3, the group travelled to Córdoba and had the privilege of visiting one of the most iconic buildings in Spain, la Mezquita de Córdoba, where they learnt about Al-Andalus, the Muslim ruled area of the Iberian Peninsula.
Update on Friday 15th March from Evie C and Caitlin T in Upper Sixth:
This February half term, a group of Sixth Form Spanish pupils spent a memorable five days in Andalucía exploring the culture and bringing our A level studies to life.
Some of our favourite moments in Sevilla included visiting the cathedral and climbing La Giralda tower to see amazing views of the city. Another highlight was the flamenco museum and show, a fantastic celebration of Andalucían tradition and a reflection of what we’ve been learning about in the classroom. We all agreed that one of our favourite days was the trip to Córdoba to see the incredible mezquita, an old favourite from our Spanish speaking sessions when talking about cultural heritage. We enjoyed exploring the beautiful streets, buying empanadas and visiting Spanish bookshops.
We visited so many amazing monuments and museums and learnt so much from our fantastic tour guides (¡gracias Juan y Raquel!), and the daily quizzes were great to test our knowledge and make sure we were actually paying attention - truly unforgettable! Our language skills were developed when ordering delicious food in restaurants and cafes - it was nice to have the independence to go out and experience speaking Spanish in real-world situations.
All in all, it was a phenomenal experience that benefited not only our learning, but our enthusiasm and appreciation of Spanish customs and lifestyle throughout history. Most importantly, we had a great time!
