Congratulations to Quinn, one of our Year 11 pupils, for gaining a highly coveted place on the prestigious Sea Cadets Navy Wings programme. The aviation course is extremely popular, with hundreds of cadets nationwide submitting applications to take part. Out of these, the top 16 cadets from the Combined Cadet Force are selected, based on the strength of the application.
The aviation course is run by the youth charity, Sea Cadets, and endorsed by the Royal Navy, providing a valuable opportunity for cadets to gain experience in the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm and the flying of aircraft. The syllabus – compiled in conjunction with qualified flying instructors – aims to develop young people’s confidence and sense of responsibility.
The programme covers a variety of aviation subjects including the theory of flight, meteorology, flight planning, human factors etc and introduces a high-pressure environment designed to simulate the workload of a budding pilot.
The course is divided into three stages of Bronze, Silver and Gold Wings, with only ten of those on the Bronze programme being invited to return for the next phase. We look forward to hearing how Quinn gets on!
