MFL Spelling Bee

14th Jul 2023
This term the MFL department organised a spelling bee competition for Year 9. After practising a range of phonics in their lessons, pupils were given a list of 30 words to learn. For round one pupils were tested in lessons and everyone was encouraged to take part in the language(s) they have chosen to study for GCSE next year. Their MFL teacher gave them a word in English which the pupils had to translate into the foreign language, pronouncing it carefully then accurately spell it out using the French, German or Spanish alphabet. Winners from round one were then invited to a final and given a new set of words to learn. The final took place on Thursday 13th July and was a tightly-fought competition which even included a tie-breaker round for two of the German finalists. We were really impressed with everyone’s efforts and delighted with the support the finalists had from their friends and fellow competitors. Huge congratulations to our final winners; Freya (French), Sakina (Spanish) and Evie (German).
