Psychology students become parents for flour/egg baby project

11th Dec 2023

“I already feel so attached to her – she is just such a lovely baby.”

“I enjoyed doing the presentation and describing the attachments we formed based on psychology”

“This project helped to visualise parts of the attachment topic”

“ I was very attached to my flour baby and will be sad to see it turn into bread!”

Our Sixth Form Psychology pupils are studying attachment and were given a project to look after their own flour or egg babies for two weeks.

Pupils were responsible for the care of the babies for two weeks, considering key themes relating to the process of attachment. The pupils were asked to take their babies with them to school. They also took them on many adventures including days out to London, library visits, conferences, sports training, matches, music rehearsals family dinners and Costa coffee trips! Some even decided to co-parent.The aim was for students to experience responsibility and to apply their knowledge of what they had learnt in lessons to a lived experience.

Whilst some pupils were glad when the ‘eggperience’ was over, there’s no doubt the babies have had an impact and inspired the pupils to learn more for their attachment topic.
