Upper Sixth Medicine/Veterinary Science Interview Event

8th Nov 2023

On Friday 3rd November, all eight of our Upper Sixth Medicine and Veterinary Science applicants took part in a practice interview event with their counterparts from Skinners’. A team of fourteen highly experienced medical practitioners, including NHS consultants, senior vets and GPs, put candidates through their paces in a series of interviews, group tasks and role-play simulations. As well as providing valuable insights into what our applicants can realistically expect from the real interviews, the event highlighted once again our strong focus on developing confident communication skills for all our pupils.

One of our TWGGS applicants for Medicine reflected on her experience: “The whole event was a brilliant opportunity for all of us I would say in different ways. It showed us techniques that we can easily employ in our actual interviews. But, also, it gave us the opportunity to learn from our mistakes in a low stakes zone. Especially as this was my first exposure to interviews, I personally found it really helpful. Of course at first the whole thing was very intimidating but I quickly relaxed into it and was able to answer more confidently as the session went by. Another thing I was super happy about was the safe space it gave us to make mistakes and learn from them which I found very comforting, only encouraging me to be more confident in my answers. A huge thank you to everyone that organised the event!”
