Languages Day

Languages Day

10th Jul 2023

On Tuesday the 4th of July 2023, the whole of year 8 participated in Languages Day - a full on fun and interactive day to celebrate culture and language.  So, each of our forms were asked to dress up in the style of a different country from the European Union.  My form T, dressed up in true French style, W as Spanish, I as German, G as Italian and S as Polish.

We started off the day with a Polish language taster (others had Italian). We learnt how to say all the simple things you would learn in your first language lesson. It was really fun to learn a different language! After that we did German Handball which we all really got into. Thankfully, we then had a calmer lesson of French Art where we drew nature inspired by the French artist Henri Rousseau. It was a challenge trying to replicate his art as an inspiration but some created outstanding work. After lunch we had a German drama session where we had two German tongue twisters to choose from and we then made a video acting it out. Finally, we had Spanish music where we learnt about different styles of music in Spanish speaking countries and we learnt to sing and dance a song called “una vez más” which the whole of year 8 then performed together.

At the end of the day we had an assembly where various prizes were distributed, including an online escape room donated by Clue Cracker if you managed to complete the treasure hunt around the school correctly. Our form won the award for best outfits, well done 8T!

This day was so much fun and it is something that I’ll never forget when I leave TWGGS. Thank you language teachers!
