Onatti Theatre - News from MFL

13th Jun 2023

Onatti Theatre has long been welcomed at TWGGS, with their touring productions of foreign language theatre. A few weeks ago, Years 8 and 9 were treated to a German language play, while this week they have watched a production performed in French. Here we have reviews from two of the pupils in the audiences.

On Friday 12th May, years 8 and 9 watched the German Onatti play. This play was about an inexperienced robber trying to rob a bank but he accidentally ended up in a bar. The more experienced robber tricked the other robber into giving him the money as he was less experienced. So it ended up that the bar lost all of its money and they needed to earn it back. To get the money back the bar entered a talent show with a winning prize of £300. In the play they were showing us different ideas of what they could perform. I really enjoyed it and liked how they interacted with the audience. It was helpful that they used different hand gestures so we could understand what was happening. I also found it amusing and the different sound effects made everyone laugh!

The French Onatti Theatre play, watched by Year 8 & 9, featured two characters who sought shelter from the rain in an abandoned house, while out hiking. As the characters settle into the home, they discover strange objects and unexplainable occurrences that indicate that the house has a sinister past. As the characters begin to understand the peculiar events and unravel the house's history, we as an audience are intrigued to discover the truth. Throughout the play, although in French, it was clear what was happening due to the characters speaking clearly and using familiar vocabulary. Along with this, the audience became involved with the play itself, with members of the audience being invited onstage to take part in the play. This gave the play an exciting and funny twist to it, which we enjoyed. Overall, the play was entertaining and enjoyable, while also challenging our French skills!

Ella Roberts, Year 9
